Our Introductory Courses are ideal for complete beginners as well as those who have had a break from yoga. We run up to three Introductory Courses each term. Book ahead to reserve your place.
Our courses are taught using the Iyengar method, created and developed over 75 years by Yogacharya BKS Iyengar. This approach is the most widely adopted yoga method in the world, renowned for its focus on precision, alignment, sequencing, timing and the use of props.
Iyengar yoga is suitable for all ages, and all levels of flexibility and fitness. It is particularly beneficial in reducing mental and physical tension and building strength and flexibility. Iyengar Yoga offers a specific focus on the alignment of the body which loosens tight muscles and brings firmness and stability, improving posture and helping to decrease pain and discomfort.
Iyengar Yoga strengthens and aligns the posture, creating more space for the joints, bringing lightness and mobility. The balanced and focused positioning of the body and mind improves breathing patterns, circulation and concentration; they soothe the nervous system and bring emotional balance.
Our introductory yoga course teaches the preliminary 29 poses that form the foundation for further practice. New postures are introduced and then consolidated each week to allow you to progressively build confidence and awareness of body and breath. Yoga philosophy is also woven into the classes.
